Our Story
Built on a Mission to Protect Indiana Families
Blue River Insurance Group was founded in June 2020 by Shelbyville native Lindel Smith. After graduating from Indiana University – Bloomington, Lindel began his insurance career as a Material Damage Adjuster in a claims department — processing property and casualty claims across all lines of insurance.
What he saw troubled him. Families filing claims, only to discover they were underinsured. People who had been sold policies they didn't fully understand, leaving them exposed when it mattered most.
That experience became his mission. Lindel opened Blue River Insurance Group with one goal: to be the agency that actually educates its clients. To explain coverage in plain language. To make sure every client knows exactly what they're buying and why.
Since opening, Blue River has become Shelbyville's highest-rated independent insurance agency on Google — not by selling the most policies, but by treating every client like family.
While our roots are in Shelbyville, we're licensed to serve clients across Indiana, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee.
